MORATA ON FAME MORATA ON SCORING

ALVARO MORATA has claimed fame and fortune offered no respite from his mental suffering during a troubled first season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri told the “fragile” Spaniard to toughen up after the £60million striker scored a brace against Crystal Palace.

But Morata has now revealed his anguish fighting a nagging back injury last season – and how he finally feels ready to fire a Blues title charge.

“I’m better,” declared the former Real Madrid and Juventus star. “I think no one, only my wife (Alice), knows how big the last year was.

“The injury, it killed me. Now, it’s OK. In the last month of last season, I was down, down, down, down. I cannot be more down. When you touch the limit, the only thing you can do is come back.

“I had a period where if it’s raining, I’m angry because it’s raining. If I miss, it’s because the pitch is too wet. It was excuses. It is not good.

“Everyone can have a bad period in their life. But we are famous, we have a lot of things. Sometimes people think we are not human, with no feelings, Alvaro Morata Andriy Shevchenko Fernando Torres 41 48 110 16 9 20

with no problems. The important thing is to find the right balance. Now, I have, and I am happy.”

Morata started his Chelsea career by scoring eight goals before the end of September last term before suffering physical and emotional turmoil.

“It takes time because I had an injury, I was not fit when playing, but now I feel good,” said the Spain forward. “The most important thing is that, finally, I have found the right way and my head is OK.

“In football, physical condition is very important, but the head is the most important thing. If the mentality is not good, then you 0.58 0.51 0.41 0.39 0.18 0.18 are in trouble.” Morata, 26, has now scored five goals in six games but was left frustrated by his failure to complete a hat-trick with a clear chance in injury time against Palace.

“I need to score three for myself, for my team and for the supporters,” he said. “It was very important for me. I think I missed because I had only this in my head. If I don’t think, probably I score.

“In the last 10 minutes, I only have in my head: ‘I want to bring the ball home’ and I think that’s why I missed. I have scored five goals but it can be eight or nine.

“It is very important to be in the first places of the table. After Christmas, everything changes. If you are in the top three, you have the chance to fight for the Premier League.”
