Elton John (second left) is pictured at a five-a-side match at the Empire Pool – now Wembley Arena – which his team won. The Pinball Wizard singer, a lifelong supporter of Watford FC, became the club’s chairman in 1976 and appointed Graham Taylor (far right) as manager in 1977. Under Taylor, the Hornets went from the bottom of the Fourth Division to the First Division in 1982.
