WOODY SUES AMAZON
Woody Allen on set with Selena Gomez WOODY Allen is suing Amazon for €60million, claiming it refused to distribute his latest movie over allegations he molested his daughter.
It comes after the controversial director had a four-picture production and distribution deal with the firm terminated.
In a suit filed yesterday in New York, Allen is seeking €59.8million in damages. He claims Amazon Studios pulled out of his deal in June after an old accusation he had molested adopted daughter Dylan Farrow in 1992 resurfaced.
He says A Rainy Day in New York, starring Jude Law and Selena Gomez was shot, edited and ready for release, but Amazon backed out in June 2018.
The lawsuit says the director, 83, demanded an explanation, but the studio would only say it was due to “renewed allegations” and Allen’s “controversial comments”. It adds Amazon executives met with Allen’s representatives in December 2017, as the #Metoo movement took off.
The execs cited the harm the firm had suffered due to its association with Harvey Weinstein.
Dylan, 33, has alleged the filmmaker sexually abused her when she was a child. Allen has steadfastly denied the allegations.
