VAR NONSENSE – PART 1

-

IT HAS been a running sore all season, both before and after lockdown.

But when Harry Kane’s ‘equaliser’ for Tottenham at Sheffield United was scrubbed out for so-called handball against Lucas Moura in the build-up, it was probably the worst incident of the lot.

Moura (right, top) was lying on the ground because he had been fouled from behind and the ball was smashed at him from point-blank range. Yes, it ricocheted off part of his arm and, yes, the law currently says handball – accidental or otherwise – leading to a goal means the goal should not stand.

VAR official Michael Oliver may have applied the letter of the law but in this case the law is an ass.

Change that law NOW. It makes football look absolutely ridiculous.

But perhaps it was karma, of sorts, after John Lundstram’s toenail was adjudged offside at White Hart Lane earlier this season.
