Hehir’s timely boost for marathon bid
Sean Hehir, one of Ireland’s representatives in next Sunday’s World Championship marathon, won theChurchtown South ‘5’ road race on Friday night.
He finished had 23 seconds to spare over James McCarthy (East Cork).
Alan O’Shea, third on the night, is still the overall leader of the four-race Series which concludes in Ballycotton on August 24.
Hehir joins an illustrious list of former winners of the race which started off back in 1980.
This winner of the women’s race was Sinead Kevany from Midleton in 31:23, now the clear overall leader in the Summer Series.
Helen Leonard (Leevale) was again second in a time of 32:25 with Jessica Bruton, also Leevale, taking third in 32:38.
