Harty completes the hat-trick in Cloyne
LOCAL man Michael Harty made it three wins in as many years when recording a clear victory in the Cloyne 5km, a race held for the eighth year and which attracted over 380 runners.
This was the easiest win of the three for the East Cork athlete, but considering he has missed most of the early part of the summer due to injury, he was well pleased.
“I missed a good couple of months so I’m still lacking in fitness but I’m happy with that performance.
“I normally take a couple of weeks break at this time of year but now will train away for the cross-country season,” added Harty, whose time of 15:04 was 15 seconds outside his course record from 2016.
Kevin O’Leary, also East Cork, continued his consistent form when taking second with a spectacular last 400m in which he closed a big gap to pass Sean Doyle almost on the line, his time of 16:03 giving him the verdict by just one second.
