Irish Examiner - County - - News -

Dámhscoil Mhúscraí Uí Fhloinn continues the Irish bardic tradition, convening for its annual gathering in the Abbey Hotel, Baile Mhúirne, on Saturday October 21.

Based on the old bardic poetry schools, the Dámhscoil was founded in 1925 by Pádraig Mac Suibhne (An Suibhneach Meann) from Cúil Aodha; Pádraig Ó Crualaoi (Gael na nGael) of Baile Mhúirne, and Dónal Ó Ceocháin, a native of Carbery. Each year, the Dámhscoil issues an invitation in verse, to which those attending may choose to reply, again in the form of Irish language poetry, usually touching on topical day.

In addition to the Dámhscoil, which begins at 7pm, this year the event will incorporate a poetry workshop for young people at 2pm, led by Irish language rap poet Séamus Barra Ó Súilleabháin.
