Annie May’s bar lands Munster darts title
senior darts team Annie May’s recently captured the Munster senior darts championship title following their win against Templemore Arms.
The Cork county champions secured the coveted Munster senior darts title after they defeated the Tipperary outfit on a 5-3 scoreline.
Paudie Hurley, whose family owns the pub was thrilled with his side’s recent achievement.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been lucky enough to win the Munster Tuborg Darts Championship,” said their proud manager.
The West Cork darts team produced a virtuoso display which enabled them to defeat the heavily favoured Premier County team, which included a number of Ireland internationals among their team.
“We were delighted to come away with a superb win against the red-hot favorites. It was an enthralling match which kept us on the edge of our seats. Templemore are a very strong team.
“They are full of top quality players. They featured a lot of big names on the Irish circuit. We were lucky I suppose, in a sense that all our players really rose to the occasion and stepped up their game. It was a great win and a great honour to win the Munster senior darts championship.”
Following their Munster final success, the county and Munster champions proceeded to an All-Ireland semifinal clash against the Leinster champions, a Kilkenny team.
The strength in depth of the Annie May’s team really came to the fore during the All-IreSkibbereen land series as all players on their panel were used due to fatigue as Paudie elaborated.
“We actually had to use all our players in our squad as the championships progressed. This was required as the games were so mentally and physically draining for the players, we had to bring fresher players in to play.
“Thankfully all the lads played to their full potential and contributed enormously to our success.
“The next step on our journey to the All-Ireland final was a cracking match against the Kilkenny team.
“This was a nail-biting match which went down to the last game, the last leg and the last dart.
“There was a great feeling of relief and delight when we realised we had qualified for a senior All-Ireland final.”
