A21st birthday party led to romance for Maria Murphy and Keith Hobbins. Maria, from Rockchapel, Co Cork, and Keith, from Listry, Co Kerry, were wed in St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney, by Fr Denis Stritch, Rockchapel, and held their reception in the Ballygarry House Hotel in Tralee.

Photographer Ian Cronin of IC Photo Studio captured the big day, which included a photoshoot in Killarney National Park.

The newlyweds, who will reside in Listry, had plenty of help when it came to planning and celebrating their big day, including from Maria’s parents Sheila and Michael Murphy and Keith’s mother and father Carole and Michael Hobbins.

The bridesmaids were Julie Leahy (Maria’s sister) and Mairead O’Driscoll (the bride’s best friend), while the best men were Thomas Hobbins (Keith’s brother) and John Hobbins (the groom’s cousin).

Matthew Hobbins, Maria and Keith’s fouryear-old son, enjoyed taking on the key role of pageboy, while Maria’s nieces, Mikayla and Ava Leahy, joined forces with Keith’s nieces Laura and Amy Hobbins as flowergirls.

The couple have known one another for many years and started dating after Maria invited Keith to her 21st birthday party in August 2009. “We officially started going out on October 7, 2009, then got married eight years later on that date,” said the bride.

They got engaged on Christmas morning 2014 when Keith had bought Maria a dressing table. “He had hidden the ring inside the drawer and when I found it he proposed.

“Our wedding day was lovely and relaxed, we even saw each other before the ceremony when Keith called to the house to see me be- fore he went to the church.”

The newlyweds and their guests danced long into the night to the sounds of the band Free Beer.

The couple hired a VW campervan for the occasion. “It was gorgeous in photos and was such a special mode of transport for our big day,” said Maria. “The owner, Timmy Lyne, Premium Vintage, was such a pleasure to deal with. On the way to the reception Keith, Matthew, and I had a lovely picnic in the back of the campervan; it was such a special part of the day where it was just the three of us.”

The newlyweds will honeymoon in Disneyland Paris with their son this Christmas and enjoyed a mini-moon in Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa.
