Storm Brian fails to dampen Sandra and John’s special day

STORM Brian failed to dampen spirits on Sandra O’Neill and John Galvin’s big day. Sandra, from Castletownbere, and Glengarriff native John were wed in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Castletownbere, by Fr Gearoid Walsh and held their reception in The Beara Coast Hotel, Castletownbere.

Photographer Ian Cronin of IC Photo Studio captured the big day on camera.

Helping them celebrate were both sets of parents, Noreen and Gerard O’Neill and Mary and Denis Galvin, as well as the bride’s grandmother Margaret Hanley and the groom’s grandmother Peggy O’Sullivan.

“The fact that both of our grandmothers were able to share in our special day meant the world to us,” said the bride.

Sandra’s sister Emer Hurley was matron of honour while her sister Jenny O’Neill joined forces with her friends Andrea Lotty and Siobhán Murphy to take on bridesmaid duties.

John’s brother Danny Galvin was best man while his brother Damien Galvin was groomsman along with his friend Killian Martin-Sullivan and the Sandra’s brother-in-law Gary Hurley.

The bride’s cousin Evan Hanley was pageboy with her nieces Katelyn Hurley and Isla Daly and her cousin Keeva Hanley as flowergirls.

The couple were college sweethearts, having met through their mutual friend Rachel Kennedy while at Cork Institute of Technology in 2006.

“We got engaged on the anniversary of our fifth year together, on October 20, 2011,” said Sandra.

“Our big day was amazing, everything went perfectly, considering Storm Brian was in full force by the time the ceremony began.”

Sandra looked stunning in in a Maggie Sottero gown sourced in the Moderne in Cork City. The floral arrangements were by Noreen’s Flowers, Castletownbere, while Robert Treston from Aisle Love You travelled from Dublin to decorate the church. Cian Murphy of Ceiliúradh and Chart Datum Castletownbere, producer of bespoke handcrafted wooden designs and a close friend, created some beautiful pieces for us,” said Sandra.

The newlyweds will live in Castletownbere.
