Story of the game

With just 12 minutes left on the clock, Cork senior star Brid O’Sullivan linked up with Laura Fitzgerald, and brilliantly fired beyond the reach of netminder Michelle Higgins.

Cavan referee Maggie Farrelly handed out yellow cards to Carnacont rio Doireann Hughes, Claire Egan, and Michelle McGing, as well as Mourneabbey full-back Cathy Ann Stack.

There were 23 minutes gone in the first half when Mourneabbey were presented with their first goal opportunity. Had Doireann O’Sullivan’s fierce shot hit the back of the net rather than the post, it would have placed them in a stronger position.

Although there was a lot of focus on the attacking talent on show, Carnacon’s Martha Carter showcased her versatility by kicking two opening -half points. She also proved to be an excellent link between defence and attack for the eventual winners.
