Wedding of the Week
Melissa and Leo’s special day a cut above the rest
AS the curtain came down on 2017, one couple made sure they made it a memorable year. Melissa O’Sullivan, from Whitescross, and Lee Martin, from Onslow Gardens, tied the knot on December 29 at the North Cathedral, followed by a reception in the Maryborough House Hotel.
Melissa explained how they got together: “We met on a random Thursday night out in Havana Browns. Myself and one of the girls decided to go out after work, it was Christmas week... little did I know five years later I’d marry the man of my absolute dreams.”
Melissa is as a hairdresser at John Geaney while Lee is an NCT instructor. He proposed in the hairdresser’s staffroom, just before lunch one day. Melissa said: “He timed it well, it was the most amazing whirlwind three-second moment of my life, can I add it wasn’t the usual but I’m glad he made this our special moment, and a very new memory for us. Can you imagine the excitement/buzz this created in the salon on a Friday afternoon?”
Melissa’s wedding dress was bought in London and she fell in love with it as soon as she saw it. Her shoes were Vivienne Westwood. Her head piece was something borrowed from her aunt, who used it at her wedding 16 years ago. Makeup was by Colette of Porcelain in Glanmire and Alison of Armani in Brown Thomas. Hairdresser was Karen Buckley of John Geaney and friend Nichola Kiely from Nics Pin Ups did the bridesmaids’ hair. Lee had his suit especially made in Savilles, Oliver Plunkett St.
Joining the couple on the day were their family — Melissa’s mam and dad, Lavinia and William O’Sullivan, her two brothers and sister, two grandmothers and one grandfather and nephew/godson Jayke. Lee’s family was his mam, Angela Martin, while his two brothers and godchild Emily also enjoyed the day. The couple lit a candle in memory of Lee’s dad Donal, who couldn’t be there with them.
Melissa’s sister Dion was maid of honour, bridesmaids were Lisa MacCarthy, Leah O’Brien and Sophie Coughlan. Best man was Roy O’Donovan, groomsmen were Lee’s brothers Daniel and Owen, and Jonathon Mulryan. Paige boy was Sam Long and flower girl was Emily Martin.
The cake was from the mini cake company, the cars from Executive Cars and the band was Pump Up The Jam from Dublin — people didn’t leave the dance floor on the night.
Reflecting on the magical day, Melissa said: “This was the happiest, most memorable day of our lives!”
