Wedding of the Week
Ode to Joy as happy couple celebrates their special day
Their paths first crossed one Christmas, so it’s no surprise Joy Higgins and Dave O’Leary chose a winter wonderland theme for their big day.
Midleton native Joy and Dave, from Ballinhassig, were introduced to one another by mutual friends on a night out in Reardens Bar in Cork’s Washington St.
The couple got engaged in Dubai in 2016, with Dave popping the question on a hotel rooftop moments before the New Year’s Eve fireworks lit up the night sky.
Last December, they exchanged vows in a ceremony led by Canon Michael Leamy in the Honan Chapel, UCC.
Afterwards, Dave’s club mates from Ballinhassig GAA provided the new- lyweds with a guard of honour.
The reception was held in Fitzgerald’s Vienna Woods Hotel in Glanmire where staff and management ensured a dream celebration.
Helping them plan the big day were the bride’s parents Doris and Liam Higgins and the groom’s mother and father Noelle and Fintan O’Leary. Mary Sexton and the Munster String Quartet provided the church music and later on Ocean’s Six kept everyone dancing at the reception.
The bride wore an Ian Stuart-designed dress, purchased in the Moderne Bridal. Mother of the bride Doris also wore a dress designed by Ian Stuart.
Baker Boy created the wedding cake, which took the form of a replica of the glamourous bride’s wedding dress, and he designed tuxedo cupcakes with the dapper groom in mind.
The bridal hair and makeup were by Marie Hickey of Bridal Hair by Marie and Nicole Hughes, The Beauty Guru.
Photographer John Sexton captured the big day on camera and Andras Czipa of Life Time Pictures was the videographer.
The groom and his party cut a dash thanks to Morley’s Formal Hire, Grand Parade.
The newlyweds enjoyed a three-week honeymoon, planned with Mary Foyle of Travel Counsellors. It took them to Cancun for eight days, followed by four days in Las Vegas and a week’s Caribbean cruise.
