Inspirational Bronagh leads Ballintemple to deserved win

Irish Examiner - County - - Sport - Ballintemple Glenville

AFTER an entertaining game of camogie, Ballintemple, inspired by Bronagh O’Shaughnessy, claimed the Allianz DC5 camogie title with a win over Glenville at Pairc Ui Rinn. Both teams deserve great credit for playing so well in very warm conditions and both sides had some quality players on show.

After a low scoring first half the teams were level at the break with a goal a piece.

Ava Fitzgerald opened the scoring for Glenville with a superb finish while Emelia Stack got the equaliser soon after from close range.

It took 13 minutes of play before the first score which showed the tough battle between both sides all over the pitch.

An enjoyable first half with both teams battling hard. Meabh Creedon, Hazel O’Connell, Bronagh O’Shaghnessy excelled for Ballintemple while Aoibheann Minihane O’Sullivan, and Ava Fitzgerald impressed for Glenville.

The second half was as exciting as the first with some loving hurling played by both teams. Once again it was a fierce battle between the sides who worked tiressly under saveage heat.

The impressive Bronagh O’Shaughnessy opened the scoring in this half giving Ballint- emple a one point lead and this was followed with a second goal from Emelia Stack.

Julia Byrne had made a superb run before making a perfect pass to Stack who struck beautifully to the back of the net.

The game’s stand-out player Ava Fitzgerald struck over from a free to bring the game back to a goal, however, a quick break up the field saw Julia Byrne bury the ball to the back of the net from a tight angle to finish the scoring and give Ballintemple a 3-1 to 1-1 victory.

Well done to both teams on a superb game.
