New way of sexing semen

Irish Examiner - Farming - - TECHNOLOGY FOCUS -

Genus ABS is expected to shortly launch its Sexcel brand of sexed genetics, to help farmers produce more female calves.

Doing this by using sexed semen in artificial insemination is now well established, but Genus ABS says Sexcel is produced through a novel technology for sexing bovine semen, that does not subject the cells to the high pressures, electric currents and shear forces of the technology currently in use in the industry.

It says Genus ABS customers have successfully used Sexcel in trials across Europe, resulting in heifer calves now on the ground.

Sexed semen technology advances continue, promising more female calves.
