Aitchison’s Seedmatic 4020C seed drill can penetrate hard and rocky soil, as well as cultivated soils, said representatives of the New Zealand company, at the Ploughing Championships.

With seed capacity of 700 litres, the drill can be used to bulk up existing pastures or sow new crops, according to Aitchison.

It features the company’s new slimline castings and inverted T-boot, as well as a variable speed gearbox. Although they come from the other side of the world, Aitchison drills are familiar to Irish farmers, with more than 200 drills already in use on Irish farms.

At the Ploughing, Aitchison revealed plans to increase their presence in Ireland, by a n n o u n c i n g a d i s t r i b u t o r, with an assembly and parts facility in the UK for back-up. Also on show at the company’s stand in Tullamore was their Aitchison Agrispred AFS-GR460, their newest model of ATV spreader. Aitchison is the first company in the world to design and build a tow-behind fertiliser spreader for ATV bikes. The AFS-GR460 carries up to 460 litres of fertiliser, with a low centre of gravity for greater safety.
