Honours for Aghinagh as finalists in Club of the Year
Aghinagh Macra members are very proud to have been selected as one of the six finalists in the Club of the Year competition. Members and supporters will travel to the Macra Annual Conference in Gormenstown, Co Meath, on the October bank holiday for the final.
Club members were also delighted to present a cheque for €2,200 to Embrace FARM. T h e c h a r i t y p r o v i d e s a bereavement support group for farm families who have lost a loved one or suffered serious injury in a farming accident.
The money was raised last June at the club’s annual 5K fun run and Know Your Neighbour evening which was held in Tigh Uí Laoghaire. Meanwhile, Awbeg Macra’s Novice Debating Team of Dan O’Callaghan, Aoife Ladd and Fiona O’Connell won their first ever debate by unanimous decision in Waterfall. Fiona was also named best debater.
They proposed the motion that “It Should Be Illegal to Buy Energy Drinks before Turning the Age of Eighteen” while Donoughamore Macra opposed. Their next debate will be against Glanmire Macra in Glounthaune on October 22. A team will also take part in the Know Your Ag Quiz tomorrow, while both the club’s men’s and women’s Gaelic Football seven-a-side teams will be competing in the National Finals of their respective competitions in Offaly on Sunday. Members will also be competing in the Welding Competition in Coláiste Treasa in Kanturk on October 17. Club representatives will attend the Sliabh Luachra Macra table quiz on October 20, while October 21 will see them attend the Avondhu Round of the Team Public Speaking and Impromptu Solo Public Speaking competitions.
