Hon­ours for Aghi­nagh as fi­nal­ists in Club of the Year

Aghi­nagh Macra mem­bers are very proud to have been se­lected as one of the six fi­nal­ists in the Club of the Year com­pe­ti­tion. Mem­bers and sup­port­ers will travel to the Macra An­nual Con­fer­ence in Gor­men­stown, Co Meath, on the Oc­to­ber bank hol­i­day for the fi­nal.

Club mem­bers were also de­lighted to present a cheque for €2,200 to Em­brace FARM. T h e c h a r i t y p r o v i d e s a be­reave­ment sup­port group for farm fam­i­lies who have lost a loved one or suf­fered se­ri­ous in­jury in a farm­ing ac­ci­dent.

The money was raised last June at the club’s an­nual 5K fun run and Know Your Neigh­bour even­ing which was held in Tigh Uí Laoghaire. Mean­while, Aw­beg Macra’s Novice De­bat­ing Team of Dan O’Cal­laghan, Aoife Ladd and Fiona O’Con­nell won their first ever de­bate by unan­i­mous de­ci­sion in Water­fall. Fiona was also named best de­bater.

They pro­posed the mo­tion that “It Should Be Il­le­gal to Buy En­ergy Drinks be­fore Turn­ing the Age of Eigh­teen” while Donoughamore Macra op­posed. Their next de­bate will be against Glan­mire Macra in Gloun­thaune on Oc­to­ber 22. A team will also take part in the Know Your Ag Quiz to­mor­row, while both the club’s men’s and women’s Gaelic Foot­ball seven-a-side teams will be com­pet­ing in the Na­tional Fi­nals of their re­spec­tive com­pe­ti­tions in Of­faly on Sun­day. Mem­bers will also be com­pet­ing in the Weld­ing Com­pe­ti­tion in Coláiste Treasa in Kan­turk on Oc­to­ber 17. Club rep­re­sen­ta­tives will at­tend the Sli­abh Luachra Macra ta­ble quiz on Oc­to­ber 20, while Oc­to­ber 21 will see them at­tend the Avondhu Round of the Team Pub­lic Speak­ing and Im­promptu Solo Pub­lic Speak­ing com­pe­ti­tions.
