ANC eligibility changes in 2019
A change across the EU in how disadvantag ed areas eligible for payments in the ANC ( Areas of Natural Constraint) scheme are defined has been postponed from 2018 to 2019.
D e s i g n at i o n o f e x i s t i n g eligible areas was based on factors such as stocking density, family farm income, population density, and the percentage of the working population engaged in agriculture.
The new designation in 2019 will be based on factors such as temperature, dryness, soil moisture, soil drainage, soil texture and stoniness, rooting depths, chemical properties and steepness of slopes.
A g r i c u l t u r e Mi n i s t e r Michael Creed said officials in his Department h a ve commenced work on the new designation, and are engaging with colleagues at EU level to ensure the best possible o u t c o m e t o t h e rev i ew i s secured.
He said there will be consultation with key stakeholders, including farmers, as the process develops further.
