Quinoa in demand

Irish Examiner - Farming - - COVER STORY -

Three EU countries are estimated to have imported a total of 17,000 tonnes of quinoa grain in 2016. Nutritionally, quinoa is considered a whole grain providing essential vitamins, minerals, and fibre, helping to regulate the digestive system. It is naturally gluten-free. Among health claims leading to its global popularity is Nasa, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, feeding it to crews on long space missions. Peru is by far the most important export country, amounting to nearly 4.1m kilogrammes.
