Junior B sketch and disco dancing feature in talent show
Glanmire members had a busy week practising for the National Talent Competition. The Cork County round took place on Good Friday in the Aghada Community Hall, and gave six members of the club the opportunity to showcase their multiple talents. The competition consists of several categories, including set dancing, disco/contemporary dance, solo and ballad singing, instrumental, comedy act and Mastermind (general knowledge). Having successfully made it through the Seandún rounds in both the novelty and disco dancing categories last month, members were feeling confident and more polished. Five members — Aisling Walsh, Karen Cashman, Gillian Kenneally, Will Daly and Cathal Cashman — took part in the contemporary disco dance.
They put together a sharp dance that impressed the crowd and judges.
Will Daly, Cathal Cashman and Seamus Reid also showed their comical side with their hilarious Junior B sketch. The side-splinting performance brought many laughs. The competition was stiff, with four acts competing in the disco dancing category and three in the Novelty Category. Two acts from each category were chosen to go through to the national rounds in Thurles which will be held later this month. The boys placed second in the novelty act category, while the disco dancers also placed runners-up, meaning both teams go forward to the next round. April is shaping up to be a very busy month with lots of events happening, including the Seandún 60th anniversary dinner dance in Rochestown Park Hotel on April 14, and the Mr Personality Festival on April 20 and 21 in the Springhill Court Hotel, Kilkenny (Glanmire’s Declan O’Hara will represent the Seandún region).
