Lim­er­ick guild has a spring in its step

It was con­grat­u­la­tions all the way at Lim­er­ick Fed­er­a­tion’s spring meet­ing on March 12. The fed­er­a­tion ta­ble quiz took place be­fore the meet­ing, with 12 guilds en­ter­ing. Cap­pamore ICA came first, with Main­i­s­tir Na Féile sec­ond. Win­ners go on to the na­tional fi­nal this Satur­day, April 7, at An Gri­anán. Con­test/pro­duce of­fi­cer Theresa Storey an­nounced re­sults of the first heat of the Aldi Brown Bread com­pe­ti­tion. First place went to Theresa Dowl­ing, Oola Guild, while Breda Cre­gan, Castle­con­nell Guild, came sec­ond. Theresa rep­re­sents Lim­er­ick in the re­gional fi­nals at An Gri­anán on July 31. Fed­er­a­tion pres­i­dent Mary Moloney chaired the meet­ing and con­grat­u­lated win­ners of both com­pe­ti­tions, wish­ing them best of luck at na­tional level.

The fi­nal event — and high­light — of the meet­ing was the make and model com­pe­ti­tion. “ICA skills and tal­ents were dis­played in beau­ti­ful skirts, jumpers and shawls,” said fed­er­a­tion PRO Eilis McNa­mara. Win­ners were Nuala Condon, Castlema­hon ICA (first place) and Peggy Harding, Oola Guild (sec­ond place) for lined skirt; Mary O’Grady, Castle­con­nell Guild (first place) and Ita Halpin, Drom­banna ICA (sec­ond place) for knit­ted jumper; and Mar­tyna Martin, Glin Guild (first place) and Kitty McMa­hon, Kildimo Guild (sec­ond place) for cro­chet stole/shawl. Con­grat­u­la­tions were ex­tended to Mairead Mo­ri­arty, Main­i­s­tir na Féile Guild, over­all win­ner in the na­tional short story com­pe­ti­tion. Vice-pres­i­dent Maura Walsh spoke about the suc­cess­ful In­ter­na­tional Women’s Day event held in the Hunt Mu­seum on March 8 — a talk on Women in Tech­nol­ogy from Uni­ver­sity of Lim­er­ick’s Pro­fes­sor Ita Richard­son. Sports/ leisure of­fi­cer Pa­tri­cia Cronin re­ported on the suc­cess­ful na­ture walk along the Great South­ern Trail Green­way.

Theresa Storey gave de­tails of on­go­ing classes in the Milk Mar­ket, Lim­er­ick, as well as Wool-Linn, a new knit­ting show in Dublin.
