Limerick guild has a spring in its step
It was congratulations all the way at Limerick Federation’s spring meeting on March 12. The federation table quiz took place before the meeting, with 12 guilds entering. Cappamore ICA came first, with Mainistir Na Féile second. Winners go on to the national final this Saturday, April 7, at An Grianán. Contest/produce officer Theresa Storey announced results of the first heat of the Aldi Brown Bread competition. First place went to Theresa Dowling, Oola Guild, while Breda Cregan, Castleconnell Guild, came second. Theresa represents Limerick in the regional finals at An Grianán on July 31. Federation president Mary Moloney chaired the meeting and congratulated winners of both competitions, wishing them best of luck at national level.
The final event — and highlight — of the meeting was the make and model competition. “ICA skills and talents were displayed in beautiful skirts, jumpers and shawls,” said federation PRO Eilis McNamara. Winners were Nuala Condon, Castlemahon ICA (first place) and Peggy Harding, Oola Guild (second place) for lined skirt; Mary O’Grady, Castleconnell Guild (first place) and Ita Halpin, Drombanna ICA (second place) for knitted jumper; and Martyna Martin, Glin Guild (first place) and Kitty McMahon, Kildimo Guild (second place) for crochet stole/shawl. Congratulations were extended to Mairead Moriarty, Mainistir na Féile Guild, overall winner in the national short story competition. Vice-president Maura Walsh spoke about the successful International Women’s Day event held in the Hunt Museum on March 8 — a talk on Women in Technology from University of Limerick’s Professor Ita Richardson. Sports/ leisure officer Patricia Cronin reported on the successful nature walk along the Great Southern Trail Greenway.
Theresa Storey gave details of ongoing classes in the Milk Market, Limerick, as well as Wool-Linn, a new knitting show in Dublin.
