Three-quarters of women feel unprepared for the menopause, according to research carried out by A Vogel, the natural health remedy company. The survey polled 3,000 pre- and postmenopausal women. Just one in four knew what symptoms to expect, with a third consulting their mother to gain insight, and nearly half googling the topic. Women would do well to eat oestrogenic foods — those which naturally contain plant oestrogens, according to A.Vogel nutritional therapist, Alison Cullen. She advises women to top up their hormone levels with oestrogenic foods: ground flax seeds; pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds; nuts; cereals; fermented soya products (miso, natto, tempeh); beans; liquorice; cabbage, peas and green vegetables generally.
