Fruit boosts

Paula Mee’s fruit and vegetable tips for parents:

New guidelines suggest we increase our fruit and vegetable consumption to seven-a-day. As a rough guide, one serving is the amount they can fit in the palm of their hand.

One 150ml glass of unsweetened 100% fruit or vegetable juice can count as a serving, but only one glass counts. Preferably eat the whole fruit or vegetable instead.

A handy water bottle with infuser can introduce a hint of flavour to water and cost as little as five euro in supermarkets, instead of buying fruitflavoured waters.

Prepare fruit and vegetables as close to eating or cooking them as possible as they can begin to lose some nutrients as soon as they are chopped.

Remember children have to taste a new vegetable more than 10 times before they develop a taste for it, so don’t give up. Keep trying. It’s worth it.
