Ac­cord­ing to HSE Get Ire­land Ac­tive — ‘if you want to feel bet­ter, have more en­ergy and maybe even live longer — then get up, get out and get ac­tive — it re­ally can trans­form your life’. “Just one out of ev­ery three peo­ple in Ire­land is ac­tive on a reg­u­lar ba­sis,” says a spokes­woman for the HSE. “Yet mak­ing ex­er­cise a part of ev­ery­day life is eas­ier than a per­son may think and doesn’t have to in­volve a gym or any equip­ment. And get­ting the chil­dren in­volved will not only im­prove health but also al­lows fam­i­lies to spend more time to­gether. “Re­search shows that chil­dren whose par­ents are ac­tive are more than five times as likely to be ac­tive than those whose par­ents are not.” Phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity helps par­ents and chil­dren in so many dif­fer­ent ways in­clud­ing: It re­in­forces fam­ily bonds Es­tab­lishes a life­time habit of be­ing ac­tive
