Safe harbour in Crosshaven
Tommy Barker climbs aboard for a look round this spacious and high-spec home in the Cork Harbour town
CORK’s burgeoning Harbour Festival rolls around again early in June, for nine days of waterborne activity, fun and adventures, with the Ocean to City race its centrepiece event, June 10 as it heads out from Crosshaven to the city quays.
But, for whoever buys Westbrook, in Crosshaven right by the entrance to the Brightwater development, the joys of living by the sea and ability to enjoy it at the drop of a sou’wester comes as a year-round bonus. Up for sale with a €430,000 price tag is this as-new, high spec 1,850 sq ft four-bed home, well-built in 2010 with considerable attention to detail, inside and out.
It’s got a part-stone facade and stone front boundary wall, and other external walls are dashed, while the windows are wood-grain pvc, looking at home with the stone colour on the front.
Estate agent Michael Pigott says this detached Crosshaven village home is in superb decorative order throughout: it has walnut flooring pretty much throughout, as well as a tiled kitchen and hall, with opentread hardwood staircase.
There’s a good-quality highgloss kitchen, and above-standard fully-tiled bathrooms (two of the bedrooms are en-suite, and the main family bathroom has a Jacuzzi bath.)
The landing is carpeted and has a Stira pull-down stairs access to a floored attic
Other rooms include main large living room with a solid fuel stove, TV/family rooms, utility and guest WC. There’s gas heating, solar panels for hot water, double glazing, and a B2 BER, so it should be cosy in all weathers, and on return from sea, beach and harbour trips.
It’s set off the road to Church Bay, a minute or two’s walk to Crosshaven’s amenities, marinas, tennis courts, and pitch and putt. There are beaches within a walk, and Carrigaline is less than ten minutes away by car.
Westbrook has off-street parking for several cars in front and side, behind a sliding gate, and behind is a compact garden, with narrow strip of lawn and a patio for BBQs. VERDICT: Harbour at your fingertips. For full details of all 60 events during next month’s Harbour Festival, in the city and across 15 towns and villages, see www.corkharbourfestival.com.
