Garden glories galore

Midleton’s Sacre Coeur is as good inside as it is outside, says Tommy Barker

ATOP address, a top garden, and a very fine bungalow home on its midst - little wonder that Midleton estate agent James Colbert says he has a gem on his hands with Sacre Coeur.

The attractive, mid 1900s bungalow with a lot of flair and elegance, would tick lots of boxes for many homehunters east of Cork city. Add then to the house’s obvious attractions things like the location, on the Dark Road by Bailick and Castleredmond, plus gardens of 0.4 of an acre which were designed by the late and highly regarded landscape artist Brian Cross, and it gets bumped up all the more in the desirability stakes.

It’s close to the the lovely Castleredmond House, which is currently for sale for a multi-million euro sum (€3.65m), and with most of that value attached to its development lands.

Mr Colbert guides Sacre Coeur at €495,000 and adds it’s within walking distance of Midleton town and its Saturday’s farmers’ market, “as well as having the beautiful Owenacurra estuary and woodlands on your doorstep which make for some of the most stunning walks in the area.

“Sacre Coeur is a true gem in the crown when it comes to properties in Midleton,” he asserts.

It gains privacy from mature boundaries and graceful weeping trees, and the grounds include patios, rockeries, rose beds, and more, and some of the more specimen trees include a Myrtle Aluma and an Anise Magnolia.

Back at the house itself, Sacrecoeurstretchestojust over 1,600 sq ft, with glazed front porch entrance, and there’s a side sun room addition that’s warm all year around, say the owners.

Recent upgrades include internal doors to living areas with beveled glass, letting extra light flow through, and there are gleaming, solid timber floors in the hall and living areas: “the quality of workmanship and care stands out from the minute you walk in,” adds Mr Colbert.

Rooms include at 16’ by 14’ living room with teak floor, second reception with cherry wood floor and white marble fireplace, dining room overlooking a patio, sun room and kitchen.

One of the four bedrooms has an en suite and there’s scope in a second bedroom too for an en suite, and a Stira gives attic access.

Overall condition is immaculate, and it has been freshly painted too inside to show at its best, and to allow the rooms compete with the charms of the ‘room outside,’ the grounds.

VERDICT: the owner’s both house and garden proud.
