Kensington, Rochestown €675,000
220 sq m (2,369 sq ft)
ZETLAND is an old name for Scotland’s Shetland; it’s also the name of a suburb in Sydney, Australia; it’s the name of a ship, and of a Danish media company, and it’s also – in plain, black and white – a cross between a zebra and a Shetland pony, if Wikipedia is to be believed. Closer to home, Zetland is also the name of a fine big, detached 2,350 sq ft five bed family home, making a reappearance on the sales market.
Now guided at €675,000 via agents Sherry Fitzgerald, this Cork Zetland is at Upper Kensington, in Rochestown, and dates construction wise about 40 years back, although decor wise it feels newer, or at least fresher, than its age might indicate. It was last on the market back in 2015, guided at €590,000, and appears not to have sold back then. Decorwise, it’s been freshened up and stripped back a bit for a sale now, and upgraded further.
It would have been an upmarket build back in ‘78, and is still sizeable in anyone’s book with two of its five bedrooms en suite. Also more or less reflecting modern ‘necessities,’ it has an L-shaped open plan kitchen/dining/living section, with double aspect. Separately, inside in this two-storey home on mature gardens, there’s a sitting room/study and a lounge, while off the kitchen is a utility, and a guest WC. Up the open tread timber and wrought iron stairs are five bedrooms, tow of them with en suites.
■ VERDICT: mature, well settled and sprightly.
