“My favourite festival memory has always been Jonjo in the Gold Cup on Dawn Run. I rode quite a few winners and I don’t remember any of them as well as I remember Dawn Run. It was just one of those very special moments. Coneygree winning the 2015 Gold Cup, Sea Pigeon win- ning three Champion Hurdles — there’s been a lot of special moments but her winning a Gold Cup having won a Champion Hurdle was pretty special. It’s such a rare achievement and it’s so hard to do. Three and a quarter miles at Cheltenham, it looked like she was down and out before Jonjo galvanised her and she got back up again. Just a shame she went off and died in France.”
