More Coutinho magic but Klopp feeling prickly after ‘fair result’

Is the end nigh for Sturridge?

Another chance for Daniel Sturridge to prove to Jurgen Klopp he has been unfairly left out of the Liverpool side turned into the latest wasted opportunity. How many more can there be?

The England international, who again for long spells at St James’ Park simply went missing, looks to have reached the point of no return.

If Klopp can line-up a January replacement for his disaffected forward, it would be better for all concerned if he moved on and sought a fresh start elsewhere. Despite his current malaise, Liverpool would not be short of suitors, at the right price. Even a change of boots midway through the first half failed to spark a change in fortune. Sturridge struggled to make an impact before he was substituted after an ineffectual 74 minutes. Klopp added to the ignominy by after the game picking out one of his forward’s misses to highlight the recent problems his side have had in finding the net.

A parting of the ways now seems almost inevitable.
