Killy over the moon
There was disappointment for Ballybunion on Sunday when the club lost the Revive Active Fourball final to Killymoon at Royal Tara.
The two sides were inseparable to the turn. Carmel Hagan and Catherine Irwin of Killymoon carded the first win on the 15th.
In the top match, Ballybunion’s Mary Sheehy and Louise Griffin were narrowly ahead with one hole to play.
However, the last hole went in favour of Mcivor and Marshall meaning extra holes were needed and Killymoon emerged winners on the 20th.
Catriona Corrigan and Pudge O’reilly won their match 3&1 to keep the Kerry club in the match, and Margaret Mcauliffe and Lorraine Canty beat Heather Campbell and Donna Mulholland 2&1.
The tie then hung on the fourth match between Patricia Joyce and Mary O’donoghue for Ballybunion and Kathryn Kerr and Colleen Conway.
Killymoon arrived at the 18th one up and Conway sealed the win for the Ulster club with a birdie four on the last from the 23 handicapper.
“It’s a great honour for our small club to win this event,” said Catherine Irwin, team captain of Killymoon. “It is our first win and I am so proud of this team for putting our small Cookstown club on the map!”
