Powter blow for Cork, UCC
Cork football manager Ronan Mccarthy has shipped an early season blow with confirmation that Douglas starlet Seanie Powter will be out for up to five weeks with a hamstring tear.
The injury, sustained in last Saturday’s opening National League defeat to Tipperary at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, could rule last season’s Young Footballer of the year nominee out of the next four Allianz League games, up to and including the trip to Meath at the beginning of March. Powter’s absence will also be keenly felt by UCC’S Sigerson Cup management and squad, with a quarter-final scheduled next week against NUIG Galway, following yesterday’s narrow defeat of Garda College in the first round. Powter will miss the rest of the third-level college championship.
