Sigerson Cup Round 1 St Mary’s University College v Ulster University, Woodlands Playing Fields (B Cassidy, Derry), 2pm.

A tasty northern derby. Ulster University will look to the likes of Ronan Mcnamee, Eoin Mchugh, Gareth Mckinless, and Ryan Mcanespie. St Mary’s surprised everyone to take last year’s title. Tyrone pair Conor Meyler and Cathal Mcshane, so instrumental last spring in toppling DCU, UCC and UCD, will lead their defence. Verdict: St Mary’s.

Dublin Institute of Technology v IT Carlow, Grangegorman (S Mulhare, Laois), 3pm. DIT’S Brian Howard and Conor Loftus were both on league duty over the weekend; Howard played the full 70 minutes for the Dubs against Kildare, kicking two points from left half-forward. Loftus was introduced as a sub during St Mary’s narrow win over Monaghan. Kevin Feely picked up a couple of knocks in Saturday’s Kildare-dublin game, so it remains to be seen if he’ll line out for IT Carlow. Verdict: Dublin Institute of Technology

Dundalk Institute of Technology v DCU, Dundalk IT Grounds

(C Reilly, Meath), 7pm.

Tadhg Mceneaney, Donal Meegan, Gerry Mcsorley, and Conor Doherty were key figures in Dundalk’s comfortable preliminary-round win over Trinity. DCU represent a sizeable step up in quality. Mayo’s Patrick Durcan, Tipperary’s Steven O’brien, and Donegal’s Caolan Mcgonigle are among the standout names on their teamsheet.

Verdict: DCU
