Cuala begin Dublin defence with a win
After just a fortnight to bask in their All-ireland club glory, Cuala began their defence of the Dublin SHC with a 1-14 to 1-7 Group 3 win over St Brigid’s at Parnell Park on Saturday.
The champions had a firsthalf fright when Con O’callaghan went down with what looked a nasty ankle injury, and though the Dublin football star played on, he never moved with his customary fluency.
Brigid’s led 1-3 to 0-5 at the break, with Gerry Murphy getting the goal.
But Mattie Kenny’s four-in-arow seekers took over after the break, with O’callaghan playing his part.
Brian Fitzgerald got their goal and David Treacy and Colm Cronin contributed strongly as Brigid’s finished with 14 men after Darragh Plunkett picked up a second yellow card.
Also at Parnell Park, in Group 1, St Vincent’s had a 3-13 to 0-10 victory over Raheny, with the goals coming from Cian Mcbride (20 and Tomas Mcgrane. Also in Group 1, St Jude’s overcame O’toole’s, 0-20 to 0-11.
Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes had already opened their campaigns with wins over Whitehall Colmcille and Naomh Fionnbarra respectively.
