Sweet ambition to sell into Germany

Irish Examiner - Supplement - - FOOD & DRINK IRELAND - Mella McAuley, Mella’s Fudge, West Cork

“We are exporting, a small amount, but I couldn’t honestly say whether Brexit and the fear of Brexit is having an impact yet because I’m not exporting enough yet — but I haven’t changed my prices, they’re the same as two years ago when I started even though sterling is worth less. Now I try and quote in euros to others looking to buy. I am going to work with a UK company making a line of fudge for them and it will all be through euros so that’s not an issue. Another UK company have been on to me about distributing my own so there is still business there for good products.

“I am looking at other markets, a crowd in Germany have been on to me, and Sweden and Scandinavia but nothing is happening yet but then again I’ve been so busy, I’ve hardly have the chance to sit down and follow it up because I’m also developing a line of fudge for another big Irish retail company.”
