Rais­ing eye­brows with stylish Mercedes E-Class Coupe

2.0-litre four-cylin­der tur­bocharged diesel (194hp, 400Nm) Emis­sions: 119g/km (€200 per year) Ri­vals: Audi A5 Coupe, BMW 4 Se­ries Coupe, Lexus RC cause of the vast num­ber of op­tions and set­tings that are ac­ces­si­ble. For ex­am­ple, there are 64 am­bi­ent light colours to choose from. But the switchgear is top-notch and ev­ery­thing you touch is well-made and damped.

I par­tic­u­larly like the lit­tle touch-sen­si­tive thumb­pads in­te­grated into each side spoke of the chunky steer­ing wheel, al­low­ing you to flick and click through the var­i­ous menus with ease. Like­wise, the ‘Co­mand’ [sic] con­troller in the cen­tre con­sole that is also touch-sen­si­tive.

But top­ping it all for in­cal­cu­la­ble plea­sure is the de­sign of the cir­cu­lar air vents. They look great and their op­er­a­tion i s de­li­ciously tac­tile too. You’ll ad­just them just for the sake of it at times.

But the E- Class Coupe doesn’t com­pro­mise on ev­ery­thing else in its pur­suit to be gor­geous to look at and use. The in­te­rior is ac­tu­ally quite roomy — and very com­fort­able. The rear, while not ideal for child seats be­cause of shapely sculpt­ing ( what parent of young chil­dren in their right minds would buy a coupe?), is per­fectly spa­cious and com­fort­able enough for two av­er­age-

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe,which is re­mark­ably af­ford­able to run, a stun­ning piece of en­gi­neer­ing which many will feel is a bar­gain at €72,000.
