Butter Me Up
Free events take place today and tomorrow in Mitchelstown Co Cork as part its Old Butter Roads Food Trail series, developed by a network of artisan producers, food outlets and visitor attractions to celebrate the range of foods produced in the Muskerry, Duhallow and Avondhu areas of Co Cork. Events start at 10am today and include a butter making workshop, a food heritage exhibition and a cow milking demonstration, while a food and wine tasting experience takes place tomorrow at Ballinwillin House at 1.30pm. facebook.com/OldButterRoad
A sculpture of the beloved broadcaster Terry Wogan will be unveiled on Limerick city’s boardwalk at Harvey’s Quay this afternoon at 3pm. The bronze sculpture has been made by renowned and award winning artist Rory Breslin. A pop-up museum will open from 12pm until 5pm on the boardwalk where fans can bring their memorabilia and share memories of Terry.
First it had a Burger Festival, then a Whiskey Festival, so it only seem right that Cork should follow all those with a Dessert Festival. Running from Monday to Sunday July 2, it will showcase the finest confections the city has to offer. A a number of venues including Electric, Sober Lane and Cafe Velo will pull out all the stops to deliver tastings, workshops and events to appeal to all with a sweet tooth.
Malt and Music
The first-ever Ballymaloe Malt & Music Weekend stakes its claim as the country’s weatherproof festival. Starting on Friday, all events take place under the shelter of the Big Shed, the massive farm building that has become the beating heart of the many annual festivals held at Ballymaloe. Performers include Jerry Fish, Little Green Cars, DJ Dr Quigley and the Hank Wedel Band. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult and are welcome until 9pm. The 2017 West Cork Chamber Music Festival, running from Friday, June 30, to Saturday, July 8 in Bantry, has attracted a stellar line-up including the The Doric Quartet from the UK. www.westcorkmusic.ie
