What’s in a name? When it comes to a magazine’s September issue, the right name on the cover has the power to sell thousands of extra copies, so when those issues drop in August, news stands look like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A List.

This month you’ll see Angelina Jolie on Vanity Fair, Kristen Stewart on Harper’s Bazaar,

Alicia Vikander on Elle, and Emma Stone on Marie Claire.

Vogue have chosen Jennifer Lawrence to celebrate their 125th anniversary issue, making her the first celebrity to chalk up two prestigious September covers. The decision to use her won’t have been taken lightly, and marking this milestone with Lawrence effectively anoints her the icon of our times. In Ireland too, editors look for A-list appeal when choosing next month’s cover star. “September’s cover is exciting… and a challenge,” reveals Shauna O’Halloran, editor of Irish Tatler. “We plan it as far in advance as we can. We shoot our cover star in the vein of a fashion editorial, so to get the autumn collections covered and play to her schedule, we usually shoot no more than four weeks ahead of our shelf date.“

Irish Tatler’s September issue, with Ruth Bradley on the front, is on sale now.
