1,300 post-abor­tion ses­sions in 2016

More than 1,300 women had HSE-funded post-abor­tion coun­selling last year.

The Oireach­tas Com­mit­tee tasked with ex­am­in­ing the Eight Amend­ment is due to hear from Jan­ice Don­lon, fund­ing of­fi­cer of the HSE’s Sex­ual Health and Cri­sis Preg­nancy Pro­gramme, who will de­tail the num­bers of women who at­tend their cri­sis preg­nancy and post-abor­tion ser­vices. Mr Don­lon is ex­pected to tell the Com­mit­tee the num­bers at­tend­ing post-abor­tion med­i­cal check-ups is low, with just 442 women at­tend­ing check-ups funded by the pro­gramme last year.

How­ever, women can also at­tend GPs for such check-ups.
