1,300 post-abortion sessions in 2016
More than 1,300 women had HSE-funded post-abortion counselling last year.
The Oireachtas Committee tasked with examining the Eight Amendment is due to hear from Janice Donlon, funding officer of the HSE’s Sexual Health and Crisis Pregnancy Programme, who will detail the numbers of women who attend their crisis pregnancy and post-abortion services. Mr Donlon is expected to tell the Committee the numbers attending post-abortion medical check-ups is low, with just 442 women attending check-ups funded by the programme last year.
However, women can also attend GPs for such check-ups.
