New twist in train drivers row

Irish Examiner - - News -

Train drivers’ unions have hit back at Irish Rail after the company said that it would implement a pay rise on foot of a Labour Court recommendation which the drivers had previously rejected.

Iarnród Éireann wrote to driver trade unions Siptu and NBRU advising that it will implement a pay increase of 3.65% to drivers, will increase the allowance for driver mentoring by 35% from €23 to €31 per mentoring duty, and clarify that mentoring is a requirement of the role of train drivers.

The NBRU said the proposal was “bizarre and “disturbing”, with NBRU General Secretary saying the move was “unprecedented in the CIE group”.
