Air Corps complete 500 water drops
Over the past 16 days, the Defence Forces have deployed helicopters which have dropped more than 620,000 litres of water on fires around the country and in the North. The Air Corps has responded to requests for help from local authorities in Cork, Limerick, Offaly, Wicklow, Dublin, and Armagh, making approximately 500 individual water drops.
Augusta Westland AW139 helicopters have been utilised by the Air Corps. They can be equipped with a ‘Bambi’ bucket aerial firefighting system capable of dropping 1200 litres of water per passover.
