Air Corps com­plete 500 water drops

Over the past 16 days, the De­fence Forces have de­ployed he­li­copters which have dropped more than 620,000 litres of water on fires around the coun­try and in the North. The Air Corps has re­sponded to re­quests for help from lo­cal au­thor­i­ties in Cork, Lim­er­ick, Of­faly, Wick­low, Dublin, and Ar­magh, mak­ing ap­prox­i­mately 500 in­di­vid­ual water drops.

Au­gusta West­land AW139 he­li­copters have been utilised by the Air Corps. They can be equipped with a ‘Bambi’ bucket aerial fire­fight­ing sys­tem ca­pa­ble of drop­ping 1200 litres of water per passover.
