Seaweed food brand enters UK
THIS is Seaweed, an organic food brand that aims to encourage consumers to engage with seaweeds, has announced its expansion into the UK market.
The company, which entered the NovaUCD hub for new ventures and entrepreneurs at UCD in May, will sell its range of seaweed flakes in Selfridges.
“I am very proud to see This is Seaweed products stocked on the shelves of one of the world’s most prestigious stores,” said founder Paul O’Connor.
“Quality has always been at the forefront of what we stand for so it is fitting that a store such as Selfridges, which demands the highest quality, is happy to provide our products for their customers.”
Established in by marine biologist Mr O’Connor in 2015, the company has received support from both Bord Bia and Enterprise Ireland.
This is Seaweed is currently seeking to raise €1.5m to develop new products and assist in expanding its market reach further within the UK and across Europe.
Over the next two years it hopes to create up to 10 jobs as part of its expansion. Its products are currently on sale online and in more than 20 stores across Ireland and The United Arab Emirates.
Meanwhile NovaUCD provides purpose-built incubation facilities for new ventures and entrepreneurs alongside a business support programme for its client companies.
More than 35 companies are currently clients of NovaUCD.
