Powerscourt reaps €7.3m from land sale
THE company behind the Powerscourt estate in Co Wicklow, that’s owned by the Slazenger family, made a €7.3m gain on the disposal of development land last year, new accounts for the firm show.
Agricultural land prices in Co Wicklow rose 17pc last year. The Guinness ancestral home at Luggala was most high-profile property for sale in the county in 2017, with a €28m price tag for the 18th-century house and 5,000-acre estate.
Powerscourt, to the north of that property, is home to the Powerscourt Gardens, which extend over 47 acres. The entire estate at Enniskerry extends to about 1,000 acres. That includes the main Powerscourt estate and its famous waterfall, as well as two golf courses, a garden centre as well as a distillery. There’s a separately-run, five-star hotel on the estate, the Ritz-Carlton.
Accounts for Powerscourt Estates show that excluding the gain from the property sale, it made a €3.2m pre-tax profit last year.
