Chance joins In­de­pen­dent busi­ness team

FOR­MER Reuters bu­reau chief in Korea, David Chance, has joined the Ir­ish In­de­pen­dent as a busi­ness jour­nal­ist spe­cial­is­ing in eco­nomic af­fairs.

Mr Chance joins the busi­ness team af­ter a 20-plus year ca­reer with Reuters.

In his last post, he was eco­nomics ed­i­tor for the Amer­i­cas, over­see­ing cov­er­age of the Fed­eral Re­serve as it man­aged the post-cri­sis re­cov­ery, the US econ­omy and Pres­i­dent Trump’s trade wars.

Be­fore his spell in Wash­ing­ton DC, Mr Chance was bu­reau chief in Korea as Reuters led with cov­er­age of the death of KIm Jong Il and the rise to power of his son Kim Jong Un. In ad­di­tion to a se­ries of nu­clear and mis­sile tests that set the world on edge, he also re­ported on life in­side North Korea.

Mr Chance pre­vi­ously served as bu­reau chief in Malaysia and Hun­gary, hav­ing started life as a cor­re­spon­dent cov­er­ing emerg­ing mar­ket economies.

Born in Liver­pool, he is mar­ried to Ni­amh and they have two chil­dren.
