Trade roars ahead as butcher hoggets hit ¤145

Dowra Mart had 560 sheep on of­fer last Satur­day, with a sharp trade for all sheep on the day. Ewes with sin­gle lambs at foot made €80/unit to a high of €190 for two hoggets with sin­gle lambs. Ewes with dou­bles made €140-225 each.

Hoggets sold for €90-130 each, while lighter store hoggets made €70-90.

Hoggets of 50-60kg made €130-145/hd at Balt­in­glass Mart, while 40-50kg lots sold for €110-128. Cull ewes made up to €125/hd. Prices for ewes with twin lambs at foot ran up to €250/unit. Ewes with sin­gles made up to €190.

En­nis­cor­thy had a much larger en­try of sheep this week with 1,875 on of­fer. Prices were im­proved for all classes, es­pe­cially for qual­ity lots of hoggets. Butcher and fac­tory hoggets sold for €119-138 each, or €71-85 over the weight. Store hogget prices ran at €95-109, or €54-70 over. Ewe hoggets sold for €118-139. Ewes with lambs at foot made €129-255/unit.

At Maam Cross Mart, Black­face ewes made €65-85/hd. Cross­bred ewes sold up to €130 each. Ewes scanned in lamb sold for €105-125. Lambs and hoggets made from €75-120 and ewes with twin lambs at foot sold to a high of €225.
