Naked acres are back in system

Irish Independent - Farming - - News - Martin Ryan

LAND that became ‘naked acres' when entitlements were removed from it by farmers who stacked payments in 2005 will be re-introduced into the system with minimum Single Farm Payments (SFP) from next year. The cost of the move will be shared among all Irish SFP recipiants.

The total area sumitted for the SFP during the seven years up to 2012 dropped by almost 300,000ac.

It is believed much of this drop occurred in 2005 when farmers were gfiven a one-off opportunity to stack up to 50pc of their payments on just half of their eligible area. This may also explain why the average payment actually increased by €6/ha during the period to €266/ha.
