€250k fails to buy Cork farm
A 51ac farm at Ballinabortagh on the outskirts of Cork city described by auctioneer Daniel Fleming as “half in grass and half wild ” f ai l ed t o s el l at auction las t week. It was withdrawn at €250,000.
The property came to auction in an executor sale with a guide of €7,000 to €8,000/ac for the grazing land and €3,000 to €4,000/ac for the wild ground.
The property is located at Ballinabortagh, 6km from Carrignavar and 6km from Glenville on the outskirts of Cork c i t y. It includes a semi-derelict residence with its own water supply.
The better part of the farm is laid out in grass on what Mr Fleming describes as some excellent ground, while the other portion is in need of work.
On the day of the sale, a good crowd showed for the auction. When bidding opened at €150,000, it moved slowly upwards.
The property was withdrawn at €250,000, but Mr Fleming reports active interest in the property since.
“I suppose people were put off by the land that needs work, but the place has the makings of a good farm,” explained Mr Fleming. “It will sell.”
Moving to the midlands and to Co Offaly, where a roadside parcel of ground extending to 17ac and situated on the Birr to Roscrea road at Sharavogue is coming to auction next week with a guide of €10,000/ac.
Auctioneer Michael Harty, of Central Auctions, describes the land as a great piece of ground all in one field that was recently reseeded. It also has 300yds of frontage.
The land will be offered for auction at the County Arms Hotel in Birr, at 3pm this Thursday, February 27.
