More clarity needed on ‘fast’ tractor tests

Irish Independent - Farming - - NEWS -

FARM bodies are continuing to call for clarity on the new rules surrounding the NCT for ‘fast tractors’.

It has been confirmed that tractors with a speed of 40kmh will not face the new measures, only those with a transmission speed over 40kmh, according to the ICMSA.

The ICMSA said some issues had been clarified by Independent Alliance TD Sean Canney however several more remained to be answered.

It wants more clarity from Transport Minister Shane Ross on whether farmers taking livestock to the mart or factory more than 25km away are exempt.

The IFA has called for changes to the new legislation governing the road worthiness test.

The Road Safety Authority said guidelines will be published in the coming weeks.
