Laheens Luke tops Limousin bull sale at Carrick-on-Shannon

Irish Independent - Farming - - PEDIGREE AND SALES -

A SEVENTEEN-month-old bull became the price topper for the Limousin breed from a small entry at the opening sale of the season for the breed at the Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society Ltd show and sale at Carrick-on-Shannon.

The September 2016 born, Laheens Luke, exhibited by Cathal Duignan, Laheen House, Eslin Bridge, Carrick-on-Shannon was the Champion Limousin Bull of the show and sold for €2,600.

The Champion of the Show was bred out of the home-bred dam, Laheens Gail, by the sire, On-Dit ONI, in the well-known Limousin herd, home of many show rosettes for the progeny which are regular price toppers.

The small entry of Limousin, and the current difficulties for farmers in the north-west did not lend to the usual attendance of prospective buyers this early in the season sale which was reflected in the trade.
