Packs a punch
Ω FORMER professional boxing champion, Barry McGuigan is supporting a campaign close to his heart to help raise awareness of blood cancer. Barry’s father Pat, who represented Ireland in the Eurovision song contest, died of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma — a rare type of blood cancer.
A recent survey showed two thirds of people have little knowledge of the disease affecting 1,900 annually. The three main groups are leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Members of the public are invited to a free information event on the cancer on Wednesday at 6.30pm in the Davenport Hotel, Merrion St Lower. Speakers include Eric Lowe, former CEO of Myeloma UK, a psycho-oncologist and Rachel Fox, Haematology Nurse Specialist, Beaumont Hospital.
