re­gards to cheese, de­spite its sat­u­rated fat (and salt) con­tent, the ma­jor­ity of stud­ies have shown that eat­ing cheese does not in­crease the risk of heart dis­ease and may, in fact, be ben­e­fi­cial. In a meta-analy­ses, which in­cluded 22 prospec­tive co­hort stud­ies, it was re­ported that cheese con­sump­tion was as­so­ci­ated with a 16pc de­creased heart dis­ease risk, and a 9pc re­duced risk of stroke.
